How Leadership, Learning and Creativity Support Personal and Professional Growth

Image
Welcome to My Blog – Leadership, Learning, Creativity & Inspiration  By Mary Lourdes Bonnici Introduction Leadership, learning and creativity are three important elements of personal and professional development. Together, they help individuals strengthen their confidence, adapt to change, solve problems and continue developing throughout their careers. In modern workplaces, success is rarely based on technical knowledge alone. Professionals also benefit from strong communication, curiosity, adaptability, critical thinking and the ability to generate new ideas. The Role of Leadership Leadership is not limited to formal management positions. Individuals demonstrate leadership when they take responsibility, communicate effectively, support others, make thoughtful decisions and contribute positively to shared goals. Strong leadership also requires self-awareness. Understanding personal strengths, limitations and areas for development can help individuals improve how they wo...

💜 What You See Is Not Always the Real Story 💜

Image
💜 What You See Is Not Always the Real Story 💜 By Mary Lourdes Bonnici MBA Sometimes people see a smile, a successful career, or someone who appears to have everything under control. What they do not always see is the silent battle taking place behind the scenes every single day. Living with fibromyalgia means facing challenges that are often invisible to others. It also means making personal sacrifices simply to continue living, working and achieving as normally as possible. The Reality Behind the Smile There are days when I smile while I am hurting. There are days when I achieve something and receive congratulations, while nobody knows how much physical effort it took simply to get out of bed that morning. There are also days when maintaining a normal routine requires careful planning, rest, discipline and difficult choices. To other people, everything may look ordinary. For someone living with chronic pain, however, ordinary life can require extraordinary effort. Invisible Il...

El Niño: How the Pacific Reshapes Global Weather

Image
El Niño: How the Pacific Reshapes Global Weather El Niño: How the Pacific Reshapes Global Weather By Mary Lourdes Bonnici MBA El Niño begins thousands of kilometres away in the tropical Pacific Ocean, yet its influence can reach communities, economies and ecosystems across the world. It can alter rainfall, intensify heat, contribute to drought or flooding, disrupt food production and increase pressure on health services. However, El Niño does not create identical weather everywhere. It changes the probability of particular conditions, while geography, season, ocean temperatures and other atmospheric patterns determine what actually happens in each region. What Is El Niño? El Niño is the warm phase of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation, commonly known as ENSO. ENSO is a naturally occurring interaction between the tropical Pacific Ocean and the atmosphere. During neutral conditions, easterly trade winds normally push warm surface water westwards towards Indonesia and Australia. Cooler, nut...

Tai Chi Walking Based on Your Age: What Is True, What Is Misleading, and What the Science Really Says

Image
Tai Chi Walking Based on Your Age: What Is True, What Is Misleading, and What the Science Really Says By Mary Lourdes Bonnici MBA Introduction  I recently came across the Facebook advertisement shown above promoting “Tai Chi Walking Based on Your Age.” It presents different exercise routines for people aged 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75+. At first glance, this can look convincing. It suggests that reaching a particular age means we should follow a specific set of Tai Chi movements designed for that number. But is Tai Chi really prescribed according to age in this way? I decided to research the subject more carefully, because Tai Chi itself has genuine evidence-based benefits. However, the way health information is marketed on social media does not always reflect how exercise should actually be personalised. What Is Tai Chi? Tai Chi, also written as taijiquan, developed in China as a martial art and gradually became widely practised as a form of mind-body exercise. It combines: ...

Tessie Camilleri: The Woman Who Opened the Door to University Education in Malta

Tessie Camilleri: The Woman Who Opened the Door to University Education in Malta By Mary Lourdes Bonnici Introduction History is often shaped not only by dramatic public events, but also by individuals who quietly cross boundaries that previous generations had been unable to cross. In Malta’s educational history, Tessie Camilleri holds such a place. In 1919, Camilleri and Blanche Huber became the first two women admitted to undergraduate degree studies at the University of Malta . Three years later, on 2 May 1922 , Tessie Camilleri graduated with a Bachelor of Literature (B.Litt.) , becoming the first female graduate of the University of Malta . ( L-Università ta' Malta ) Her achievement represented far more than an individual academic success. At a time when university education for women in Malta was only beginning to become a genuine possibility, her graduation demonstrated that women could participate successfully in the highest levels of academic life. Who Was Tessie Camiller...
